Happy Good Friday! Today is a public holiday for those countries that celebrate this religious holiday.
I’m kind of curious as to why Good Friday is called Good Friday. I managed to get a few results explaining the reason for calling a Friday before Easter is called Good Friday after doing a search for the “Good Friday” keyphrase on Google.
In fact, Good Friday is also called Holy Friday, Great Friday and Black Friday. It is the day commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the cross. This is probably to be dated April 3, A.D. 33.
I think there is a long story behind it and this is going to take some time to explain why Good Friday is called Good Friday so I’m not going to elaborate further over here. The details can be found in Wikipedia so just click on this Good Friday anchorlink to read further.
Good Friday is a public holiday and most of the local people don’t have to work today. One of the best things to do is probably to go for shopping with the family. Furthermore, the long-awaited Tampines 1 shopping centre had finally been opened to the public on 09 Apr.
A day after its opening is Good Friday holiday and you can see that the organisers of Tampines 1 have meticulously chosen this day to attract more shoppers to visit their new shopping centre. As expected, Tampines 1 was jam-packed with people this afternoon.
Anyway, I think it is always good to see new shopping centres popping up across the country. It lets the family to bring the old and the young for outing at the new shopping centre.
It also gives shoppers more choices to shop and have a relaxing holiday on Good Friday. Enjoy and have some fun!
My eldest nephew has turned 15 years old today. He is now a little young man who has grown up almost with a blink of an eye. Just how time flies!
This is the birthday cake that we bought for him. An expensive durian-flavoured premium cake bought from a well-known confectionery shop (Emicakes).
Birthday Cake :
We have had already brought him to the seafood restaurant for an early birthday celebration last Sunday. So, today’s birthday celebration is just a simple one.
I have had purchased a standard membership for accessing to the Web 2.0 graphic software through the Quick Web Creations site in 2008. I paid a one-time payment for myself to use the web-based graphic software for creating Web 2.0 graphic.
Frankly speaking, I seldom use it because I didn’t have much ideas as to what I wanted to create or for what purpose that I needed to use the web-graphic software.
I didn’t use the software very often until recently. Reason being that I’m preparing to design my own website using Xsitepro software so I would require to make full use of all the resources that I am having.
This is one of the graphics that I have created for my Laingan.com Blog :
I have also created some simple web graphics and sent to my friends as a gift. I hope they will like it. I will also treasure their feedback and comments if there is any, be it positive or negative. It’s fine with me.
I will create different graphic designs and see which are the ones that best suit the theme of my upcoming website. I will then cherry-pick the most suitable ones to put them in my new website.
I need to create web graphics for the header, footer, background, logo and so on. Of course, it requires creativity to do the graphic designing and make the website look professional enough.
For a start, I’m going to aim for simple and comfortable-looking graphic design before going into fanciful ones. After all the web graphics are created, I can start to work on the website design.
I’m targeting to complete the web graphics and website designs within April. Hopefully, everything will be running smoothly and meeting my schedule.
I’m feeling excited about my own designs. I just can’t wait to see my new website go live!
A friend of mine has forwarded an email to me pertaining to the local national library is organising a Book Exchange event. The purpose is obviously to encourage people to exchange used book in a way to save our trees on this planet.
The procedure of doing the book exchange is quite straight forward. Just three simple steps to exchange your used books for new reads. All you need to do is to bring your used books to any public library on the specified date, time and place.
Then, you just need to drop off your used books and get a book exchange coupon indicating one-for-one exchange for the books accepted. After that, bring your coupon to redeem for the used books dropped by other book lovers.
Of course, there are terms and conditions apply that you need to follow before exchanging the used books. Otherwise, you are just wasting yours and other people’s time.
I love to write as well as love to read. I have bought many books since my school days and I’m still keeping them in my bookshelf. Most of the older books have turned yellowish and smelly after all these years.
Despite this, I still keep the old books with me and will take them out if I wanted to look for some information for my writing. I have the habit of writing down the price, date and place of purchase on the last few pages of the book.
It helps to bring back the good old memory of the past whenever I take out the book and do a quick flip-through. The books have some sentimental values to me so I don’t think I would want to participate in the book exchange event.
Even if the books are so old, yellowish, smelly and torn, I would rather keep them in my bookshelf than to let them go. I enjoy the process of reading and I will not forget about the books have had brought me joy.
The 15th birthday of my eldest nephew is coming soon on the 9th of April. We have had booked an Ala Carte Seafood Buffet Lunch two weeks in advance at the seafood restaurant located at East Coast Park.
Yesterday was the family day for us to have an early birthday celebration for our eldest nephew at the seafood restaurant. All of us were so excited to get together and enjoy the different varieties of seafood.
Here are the pictures of Ala Carte Seafood Buffet Lunch :
Braised Mini Abalone with Oyster Sauce :
Braised Shark Fin Soup with Crab Meat :
Deep-Fried Sea Bass with Oyster Sauce :
Drunken Prawn with Herbal Soup :
Sauteed Scallop with Asparagus :
Crispy Soft Shell Crab with Garlic and Seven Spices Salt :
Prawn with Salad :
Fried Mussel with Sambal Sauce :
Pan-Fried Prawn Meat with Beancurb Sheet Roll :
Nyonya Kueh :
The children love the abalone and shark fin soup but they didn’t actually eat much as they just wanted to have some fun. The adult have had a taste of almost all of the dishes and made a comparison of this restaurant with others.
My family and I feel that the taste is just average but the price of this Ala Carte Seafood Buffet Lunch is considered economical. It could cost more for a family of five adults and four children if we were to eat in some other restaurants.
Anyway, this seafood restaurant is still a good choice if you wanted to make your family, children and yourself to be happy 😛
When I was attending the free preview of the Millionaire Business Academy seminar, the speaker of that night was Patrick Cheo. He is the Group CEO of AKLTG and he is the person who actually runs the business for the company.
Patrick Cheo has shared a lot of good tips with us and given us many ideas on how we can start up a business for ourselves. I think what he has said is very meaningful. He said that one of the criteria to succeed in any business is PERSISTENT.
This reminds me of a poem that I had read from an anthology. The poem goes like this :
PERSISTENCE
Nothing in the world
can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not;
nothing is more common than
unsuccessful men with talent
Genius will not;
unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not;
the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination
alone are omnipotent.
The slogan “PRESS ON” has solved
and always will solve
the problems of the human race.
~ Calvin Coolidge
This is indeed a great poem. So, if we feel that the going is very tough, we should remember that the slogan is to “PRESS ON” — no matter what problem we might face. I believe it will pay off to be persistent.
My friend and I have resumed our Friday walking exercise this morning after resting for a week. I’m not sure how much weight I have put on for not doing any exercise last week 😛
Well, it is time to burn away some fat and reduce the calories because my pants are getting tighter than before. In fact, this is a good indicator to tell myself that I have to do more exercises so as to keep fit. After all, it is always good to keep fit rather than to keep fat 🙂
We walked to the Changi Village and took our breakfast first before moving on with our walking exercise. I think it is very important to take some food in the morning so as to give our body energy before doing any strenuous exercise.
Otherwise, we might not have enough strength to walk further and make ourselves tire easily. Furthermore, I need to have a sip of coffee or any sweet drink to keep myself alert if not awake especially in the morning. If not, I will have headache starting from noon time to night time.
After having Wanton noodle as our breakfast, we walked to the nearby Changi Village Hotel to pay a visit to their washroom as well as to explore what the restaurants have to offer for buffet meals. We might come back next time to try their food there if we have a chance.
Then, we carried on with our walking exercise and took those routes that we used to walk through again. After walking for quite a while, I think it was quite taxing to walk under the hot sun. Needless to say, both of us perspired profusely and we had to drink more water so as not to get dehydrated.
We timed ourselves and estimated that we have had walked more than 13 km in today’s walking exercise at Changi Village. Wow, I think the result is quite good and hopefully it has burnt away enough fat for our effort in walking the extra miles for today.
I bought Adam Khoo’s book entitled “Secrets of Building Multi-Million Dollar Businesses” in October 2008. I really enjoy reading this book as I find that there are many good tips and resourceful information for anybody who wishes to start up his/her own business.
I saw AKLTG was advertising this MBA program in the newspaper last year but I was just too busy with my work although I was very interested to attend the free introductory preview of the Millionaire Business Academy seminar.
I missed the last MBA preview in December last year and I thought it will resume in January this year. However, to my surprise, AKLTG didn’t continue with the preview until April. I didn’t know that it took them so long to start the free introductory preview of the MBA seminar again.
This week, I’m so delighted to see AKLTG is advertising the Millionaire Business Academy program again in the newspaper so I quickly marked the date in the desk calendar to remind myself to attend the free MBA preview since I like the “Secrets of Building Multi-Million Dollar Businesses” book so much.
So, I’m not going to give the free introductory preview of the Millionaire Business Academy seminar a miss this time round.
Today is April Fool’s Day and this is the day to play practical jokes on friends, family and even enemies 😛 So, you ought to be in the mood to enjoy April Fool’s Day rather than to take things too seriously.
Leslie Cheung was one of my most favorite artistes since my school days. I often listened to his songs whenever I felt lonely and bored back then.
But I was sad to know that Leslie Cheung had chosen to end his life on the April Fool’s Day in 2003. It was such an unbelievable and shocking news when I first watched the news on the mobile TV inside the bus when I was on my way home six years ago.
Leslie Cheung had ended his own life by jumping down from the 24th storey of the Mandarin hotel in Hong Kong. Nobody knows the reason as to why he wanted to commit suicide. Perhaps he was very depressed and was having some trouble that caused him to give up hopes at that moment.
Just like Anita Mui who was also my favourite artiste, Leslie Cheung was also a talented artiste who can sing, act and dance very well especially when he was performing live on the stage.
His death is a great loss to the Hong Kong show business. I believe Leslie Cheung’s fans and people who love him dearly will never ever forget about his pretty face.
So, let us enjoy his great performance in Korea as featured in the video clip below when he was singing his popular “Sleepless Night” song :
I received a phone call a few days ago from a seminar organiser who was asking me whether I would be interested to attend an Income List Booster seminar conducted by a local internet marketer.
My answer was a “Yes” since I’m quite free nowadays. Honestly, I find it enjoyable to attend free seminars and talks in recent 1-2 years. I will usually find time to attend non-work related seminars so as to find out the current market trend as well as to have a feel of the market response.
Furthermore, I can take the opportunity to see how the hosts or speakers do their presentation and public speaking. They will be the models for me to learn from if I need to do classroom training for the skilled workers again in the future.
So, I attended the internet marketing seminar on the topic of Income List Booster this evening. The speaker for today was Jaz Lai who is a famous internet marketer internationally but not many local people have heard of his name. What an irony?
Basically, what Jaz Lai had covered this evening is quite the standard internet marketing stuff except that the methods that he uses are somehow quite different from others. I would say he goes against the norm in certain area and I find it an eye-opener for me.
His easy-going style makes him more approachable and likeable than other local internet marketers or presenters. Jaz Lai even mocks about his poor written English during the seminar. I find him frank and honest enough to admit that.
Frankly speaking, I have already learnt the internet marketing basics from the WordPress Jumpstart course that I took up in 2007 so I don’t think I will sign up for Jaz Lai’s Income List Booster course.
He even slashed the course fee quite significantly as the initial response was not too positive. You can see that internet marketers get the hit from the global economic downturn too just like the full-time working people.
So, who says internet marketing or online business is recession-proof?
