Web Hosting Tutorial – How To Sign Up For A BlueHost Account?

If you have been using a free web hosting such as Blogger.com, you should know by now that you do not have much control over your Blog or website. Furthermore, Blogger.com has the right to shut down your Blog anytime if you did something wrong that violates their terms of use.

The best option is to switch it over to a self-hosted web hosting that requires a monthly subscription so that you could do whatever that you want on your Blog or website. Of course, the things that you do on your website have to be something that is done right morally, legally and ethically.

One of the most outstanding web hosting services, as recommended by online experts is BlueHost. In fact, BlueHost is well-known for its ease of use for hosting WordPress Blog. Furthermore, you get your own domain free when you sign up for the BlueHost service.

Bluehost offers installation script called Fantastico Installer. This is a good service that enables you to install quickly and easily wide verity of scripts, content management systems, blog and forum platforms. WordPress is the most popular and easy-to-use Blogging platform and it is among those scripts available for easy installation via Fantastico Installer with BlueHost.

However, the downside of using Fantastico is that it does not provide the latest WordPress version. Good news is that BlueHost has included another installer that is similar to Fantastico. This installer is called SimpleScripts that allows you to install scripts or the latest WordPress version of your website or Blog within minutes.

Here is a web hosting tutorial that shows you how to sign up for a BlueHost account :

WordPress Version 2.8.2 Is Now Available For Download

I was recently thinking about whether I should upgrade my Blog to the WordPress newer version 2.8.1 or not. Then, I happened to visit a Blog whose owner had just written a Blog post to inform his readers about the release of WordPress version 2.8.2.

Wow, I think this open source Blogging software is changing rather too frequently. I guess not many people are able to catch up with the changes. Furthermore, there is a risk of losing all your database or Blog posts if you didn’t do a proper backup should there be a mistake cropping up during the software upgrading.

Anyway, the reason for the new release of WordPress software 2.8.2 is that it has got a security update so anybody who is using WordPress 2.8 or 2.8.1 should upgrade to the latest version 2.8.2 as quickly as possible.

I understand that there are 10 files affected by the software upgrade and it doesn’t touch the database so the risk of losing your Blog posts, archives and so on is quite low. Alternatively, you can also use the auto-upgrade feature that is built into the WordPress software.

WordPress Blog Installation Software – Fantastico And Simple Scripts

As I had mentioned in my previous Blog post, I already know the techniques of creating a free-hosted Blogger Blog as well as a paid self-hosted WordPress Blog. This is because I had taken up a WordPress Jumpstart course in 2007 so I’m actually very familiar with the WordPress Blog setup process.

Thus, I don’t think I have learnt many new stuffs in the Wealth Academy business skill workshop on the topic of Advanced Blogging except for the type of software used for installing the WordPress Blog. I was taught to use Fantastico to install Blog since the WordPress Jumpstart course as it is one of the most popular installation softwares so far.

Fantastico De Luxe icon is a blue smiley which can be found in the web server under the “Software / Services” section once you log in to the cPanel administration panel. Fantastico is a commercial script library that automates the installation of web applications to a website. Its scripts are executed from the administration area of cPanel.

However, one of the drawbacks of using Fantastico is that the WordPress software version is not the latest. For example, it could give you an older WordPress version such as version 2.5.1 when a newer version, say 2.6.2, is already available. You need to upgrade the WordPress Blog version after you have installed the old one.

Actually, I didn’t know about this Fantastico drawback until I had attended the WA business skill workshop on Advanced Blogging. The trainer, Stuart Tan, told us that one of the methods to overcome this drawback is to use the Simple Scripts which is a one-click installer that automates script installation.

So, I think one of the benefits of attending the WA business skill workshop on Advanced Blogging on 02 March is to discover Simple Scripts and learn how to use it to install the latest WordPress Blog software. Well, it is still a gain after all.

Blog Setup Tips – How To Set Up A Blogger Blog

I guess most of the people have heard about blogging but might not know exactly how to set up a Blog. My 14 years old nephew told me that he is learning how to set up a free Blog on Blogger.com in his school.

You see, even youngsters know how to set up a Blog and this is going to be a trend in our society as the government is advocating the use of information technology (IT) in our daily lives. This is going to help in the growth of economy for making full use of the IT and its infrastructure in the long run.

In this Blog post, I’m going to show you how to set up a free Blog on Blogger.com which is managed by Google. It is usually easier to set up a free Blog by following those instructions prompted on the screen than to set up a self-hosted Blog if you do not have the technical know-how to do it on your own.

I personally prefer to use a self-hosted Blog to a free one as I like to have full controll over my Blog and I can do whatever (legally, ethically and morally, of course) that I want to. Anyway, for a start, I’m going to tell you the pros and cons of using a free Blog hosting service before showing you how to set up a Blogger Blog.

A free hosting service is a web hosting already provided on behalf of a free, reputable service provider such as Blogger.com, WordPress.com, Multiply.com, etc.

Pros :
It’s free! It’s a good choice if you are on a budget. Meaning to say you save US $8-10 per year for a domain name and US $7.95 per month for a web hosting service if you were to use a paid self-hosted Blog (just like this Laingan.com blog).

Cons :

Your content resides on someone else’s server rather than on your own and you are subject to the service provider’s terms of use. Meaning to say this party has the rights to shut down your profile and you could lose all the information you have created.

Steps To Get Started With Blogger.com Account :

Step 1 : Go to www.Blogger.com to set up a free account.
Step 2 : Click on the “Create Blog” orange arrow.
Step 3 : Select a name.
Step 4 : Select a template.

Note : Your Blogger web address is in this format ==> http://www.xxxx.blogspot.com where “xxxx” denotes the name that you have chosen for your Blog.

Don’t worry if you still do not know how to set up a Blogger Blog. I have a video clip for you to follow. Start your blogging journey right away as it is easy. Enjoy blogging!
