Pay Tribute to Michael Jackson – This Is It Movie

I went to see the “This Is It” movie on Tuesday night and it was in a way to pay tribute to the late Michael Jackson who passed away on 25 June 2009.

This Is It” movie is actually a compilation of rehearsals, interviews and backstage footage of Michael Jackson as he prepared for his series of sold-out shows in London. But too bad, he passed away suddenly just a few days before the concert would take place.

Michael Jackson was full of energy and flushed with enthusiasm throughout the rehearsals. Although he was thin, Michael Jackson looked fit and healthy whether or not he was on or off stage. It’s definitely hard to imagine such a healthy-looking person would die suddenly. Life is really unpredictable!

You can tell that Michael Jackson was very professional and serious about his performance. He knew his songs and dance steps very well. He also got himself involved in a lot of things such as telling the music director when to slow down with his music, telling the electric guitarist when to shine her skill, telling his co-singer when to look towards the audience and so on.

Michael Jackson was a perfectionist and he was in control of the rehearsals to make sure that everybody know what they were supposed to do in order to make the concert a success. However, Michael Jackson never knew that this was a tour he never got to begin.

After seeing the movie, I must say Michael Jackson was a real superstar, a talented artiste and a borned performer. He was the real King of POP of our time.

I often feel that Michael Jackson had a kind look in his face and I believe he was a kind-hearted person in real life despite all those negative news that were against him during his prime. Anyway, everything is history. This Is It.

April Fool’s Day 2009 – In Memory Of Leslie Cheung

Today is April Fool’s Day and this is the day to play practical jokes on friends, family and even enemies 😛 So, you ought to be in the mood to enjoy April Fool’s Day rather than to take things too seriously.

Leslie Cheung was one of my most favorite artistes since my school days. I often listened to his songs whenever I felt lonely and bored back then.

But I was sad to know that Leslie Cheung had chosen to end his life on the April Fool’s Day in 2003. It was such an unbelievable and shocking news when I first watched the news on the mobile TV inside the bus when I was on my way home six years ago.

Leslie Cheung had ended his own life by jumping down from the 24th storey of the Mandarin hotel in Hong Kong. Nobody knows the reason as to why he wanted to commit suicide. Perhaps he was very depressed and was having some trouble that caused him to give up hopes at that moment.

Just like Anita Mui who was also my favourite artiste, Leslie Cheung was also a talented artiste who can sing, act and dance very well especially when he was performing live on the stage.

His death is a great loss to the Hong Kong show business. I believe Leslie Cheung’s fans and people who love him dearly will never ever forget about his pretty face.

So, let us enjoy his great performance in Korea as featured in the video clip below when he was singing his popular “Sleepless Night” song  :

Elton John – I Like His “Something About The Way You Look Tonight” Love Song

I like Elton John‘s songs starting from the time that I first listened to his love song entitled “The One” in 1994. During that time, this song was frequently being played on the radio stations from morning till night in California.

I happened to listen to Elton John’s other song entitled “Something About The Way You Look Tonight” about 6 to 7 years later when I was still working in my previous company.

The company was developing our own MP3 recordable player so we were required to test out the sound quality of the player by playing various types of audio CDs, CDR and CDRW.

Besides listening to the sound quality, we were also required to test out the functionality of the MP3 features as well as to trouble-shoot the player if it was faulty. We would also make a feedback to the designers if there were areas that required improvement.

The job gave me a lot of opportunities to listen to many different languages of songs. So, you can see that it was such a great pleasure and enjoyment to get paid for listening to songs during office hours 😛

One day, my former colleague passed me a compilation CD for testing purpose. Guess what? I cannot put it down when I heard Elton John was singing his love song. I was immediately attracted by his rich and powerful voice.

I really cannot stop listening to Elton John’s “Something About The Way You Look Tonight” song as it is such a beautiful love song which is as enchanting as “The One” song that I have had heard 15 years ago.

Sometimes, I really admire those talented songwriters who can produce very beautiful and everlasting love songs for the universe. How I wish I could do some creative work like this!

Anita Mui – The Best Of The Best Chinese Female Artists Of All Times

I always remember that the second last day of the year is the death anniversary of Anita Mui since 2003. Time really passes very quickly and today (30 Dec) is Anita Mui’s 5th death anniversary already.

Although Anita Mui is no longer living in this world, she is still one of my most favourite artistes since my school days. I remember that I used to take my pocket money to buy Anita Mui’s cassettes whenever she had released her new songs or albums.

I inserted the cassette to my walkman and listened to Anita Mui’s songs when I was sitting on the bus on my way to school. I was never lonesome as her songs were keeping me company throughout the journey. I often listened to Anita Mui’s songs when I was lazing about on my bed too.

One of Anita Mui’s most popular song is entitled “Bad Girl“. I still can remember her singing : “Why Why Tell Me Why?” although I seldom listen to this song these days.

Just like Momoe Yamaguchi, who is also my favourite artiste, Anita Mui had low, husky and yet powerful voice. She was a born-singer and her good voice had attracted millions of fans and supporters.

Anita Mui was also an excellent stage-performer who sparkled prominently whenever she was on the stage. She can sing, dance, act and perform well. Anita Mui had her talents and her charisma as an artiste of the Hong Kong show business.

In my opinion, Anita Mui is still the best of the best Chinese female artistes of all times. Her all-rounded talents made her outstanding. Nobody can replace Anita Mui so far or forever. Anita Mui is indeed a legend of the Hong Kong entertainment circle.

Let us pay a tribute to Anita Mui.

Hope you enjoy watching her live performance by clicking the video clip below :

Momoe Yamaguchi – My Favourite Artiste-Cum-Idol

Momoe Yamaguchi is my idol since I was a primary school student. She was one of the most popular Japanese artistes back then in the 1980s. In fact, she was a talented singer, actress and pop idol of Japan. Her career lasted from 1972 to 1980. I still like her after so many years since her retirement at a very young age, ie. at 21 years old.

Momoe Yamaguchi (or Shan Kou Bai Hui in Chinese) was born 17 January 1959 in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. She was left in the care of her maternal grandparents not long after she was born. She was then returned to her parents at around 4 years old.

I read about some articles in the newspapers and magazines reporting that her father was an irresponsible man. He left the family when Momoe Yamaguchi was still a little girl. Her mother had then become a single parent to her two daughters, Momoe and her little sister Toshie. The family moved to Yokosuka where they would stay until Momoe rose to stardom. It is the place she considers home.

Momoe Yamaguchi was very famous in the 1980s and secured her legacy by bowing out of the entertainment business at the peak of her career to marry her frequent co-star cum fellow actor Tomokazu Miura. I believe Momoe really loves this man vey much. Otherwise, she would not have to quit the show business during the peak of her singing and acting career. I think retiring at the age of 21 years old is just too young to waste her youth.

I still like to listen to Momoe Yamaguchi’s songs and watch her movies very much despite I don’t understand Japanese. I like her low, rich, powerful and kind of husky voice. I also like her melancholical eyes which are very attractive.

Here is a video clip of Momoe Yamaguchi singing her popular song called COSMOS live. Look at Momoe, how young she was before calling a day for her singing and acting career.
