Western Food – Have Not Been To Jack’s Place For A Long While

My sister and I went to Bras Basah complex to find some books recently. We were planning to hang around there for an hour before hopping over to the nearby World Book Fair which was held at the Suntec City.

We felt tired after walking for more than an hour so we decided to have some bites to cease our hunger. There is a western food restaurant called Jack’s Place located opposite Bras Basah complex and its price is reasonable especially if you order their set lunch meals.

My sister loves Jack’s Place very much and she even has a membership card that entitles her to have a free meal on her birthday.

I ordered mushroom soup and chicken crump for my late lunch. My sister ordered her favourite lobster soup and grilled chicken chop.

My sister loves the food there very much but I just find it OK. The food could taste better if they bother to improve their ingredient from time to time.

Lunch At Jade Restaurant On Sunday

My sisters and I went to the Jade restaurant to have our lunch today. The restaurant was quite packed with people especially on Sunday. Despite this, we still managed to find 1 or 2 empty tables around.

We got ourselves settled down and then started browsing through the menu. The captain came and gave us his recommendation of their popular dishes. He is a middled-age man who is very polished in his customer service skill. His friendliness and helpfulness made people feel comfortable.

We listened to his sweet talk and ordered a few special dishes besides our favourite Dim Sum. You see, sweet talk always works 🙂

All of the dishes tasted good and we have no doubt about their standard as this is one of the reasons why we have chosen to visit Jade restaurant. Furthermore, we were well-served by their captain. So, we have had a delicious lunch and pleasant day today.

Early Birthday Celebration For My Eldest Nephew 2009

The 15th birthday of my eldest nephew is coming soon on the 9th of April. We have had booked an Ala Carte Seafood Buffet Lunch two weeks in advance at the seafood restaurant located at East Coast Park.

Yesterday was the family day for us to have an early birthday celebration for our eldest nephew at the seafood restaurant. All of us were so excited to get together and enjoy the different varieties of seafood.

Here are the pictures of Ala Carte Seafood Buffet Lunch :

The children love the abalone and shark fin soup but they didn’t actually eat much as they just wanted to have some fun. The adult have had a taste of almost all of the dishes and made a comparison of this restaurant with others.

My family and I feel that the taste is just average but the price of this Ala Carte Seafood Buffet Lunch is considered economical. It could cost more for a family of five adults and four children if we were to eat in some other restaurants.

Anyway, this seafood restaurant is still a good choice if you wanted to make your family, children and yourself to be happy 😛

High-Quality Chinese Meal, Seafood And Dim Sum At A Huge Discount

My family and I are attracted by the various economical lunch packages promoting low-cost meals lately. The huge discounts as advertised in the newpapers and flyers are just irresistible.

So, we took the opportunity to go to one of the Chinese restaurants to have our lunch today. The boss of the restaurant was a famous chef who has set up his own Roland restaurant at the East Coast Park.

He is one of the four heavenly kings among the Chinese chefs who have made themselves famous by cooking delicious Chinese cuisine.

We ordered a mixture of Dim Sum, seafood and other Chinese cuisine at one go.

After tasting the food, I would say the chef has earned his name for a reason. The Dim Sum, seafood and other Chinese cuisine were really delicious.

My family and I were very satisfied with the food there. It is always fun to enjoy good food with my family on family day.

Economical High-Tea Buffet – A Taste Of Pu Tian Cuisine At The Xin Hua Style Restaurant

Sunday is a family day for the family members to get together. One of the best things to spend on a Sunday afternoon is to go to the restaurant or food outlet to enjoy some good food with the family.

I know that we should not spend lavishly when the global economy is having its downturn. We also wouldn’t know when the economy will revive to a promising level if not at its peak. However, this doesn’t mean that we cannot bring our family members to the restaurant to have some nice food.

As mentioned in my past few posts, many restaurants and hotels are promoting economical buffets to attract more people to eat buffet so as to bring in business. I think this is a good business strategy so as to make people feel that they are still able to afford to eat at the restaurant by paying less.

My family and I popped in to a Xin Hua style Chinese restaurant to order the Pu Tian cuisine at a nearby shopping mall. The price of $12.80 SG is considered reasonable for a high-tea buffet that starts from 3pm to 5pm.

Although there were not too many varieties of Pu Tian dishes to be chosen from, I think we should not ask for too much in view of the low price tag.

I would say Pu Tian cuisine has its own speciality that belongs to the Xin Hua style. It is another taste of the different group among the various types of Chinese food. Well, I still prefer the Cantonese cuisine to the Pu Tian.

Anyway, my family and I had enjoyed our high-tea buffet and we think this was value for money for the low price.

Fried Carrot Cake – I Prefer The White Version To The Black One

I went to IMM shopping centre after shopping at its nearby Jurong Point today. It was already 5pm so I headed to the food court to order some food before it was too crowded during the dinner time.

Actually, I was not hungry at that time because I had taken quite a heavy meal as I ate chicken chop during lunch time. I just wanted to take something light for the evening so I browsed through all the food stalls to hunt for my food.

I think one of the best choices for light meal is carrot cake so I ordered a plate of fried carrot cake (or Chai Tow Kway) and waited patiently for the stall keeper to fry it.

By the way, there are two versions of fried carrot cake. One is the black version that uses sweet soy sauce and the other version is without sweet soy sauce. I ordered the white version because it will taste funny if I were to drink coffee after taking the black version of carrot cake which is fried with sweet soy sauce.

Carrot Cake — The White Version (Chai Tow Kway) :

fried-carrot-cake-chai-tow-kway

Carrot cake is made of rice flour and white radish. It is served in large rectangular slabs which are steamed and then cut into small rectangular pieces. The way to cook it is to stir fry the carrot cake with soy sauce, eggs, spring onion and garlic.

Chili paste will be added for those people who prefer to eat spicy carrot cake. The small rectangular pieces of carrot cake are poured on top of a beaten egg to form a crust and stir fried.

I think it is not too difficult to prepare carrot cake if I were to fry it at home. What I need to do is to buy the ready-made steamed carrot cake and then cut it into rectangular pieces. Then, stir fry it with the ingredients.

Creamy Chicken Spaghetti

I drove my chubby nephew to Downtown East to play bowling yesterday. He told me that he was hungry so we went to Pastamania to have our spaghetti meal while waiting for my family to arrive.

He ordered his Chicken Bolognese Spaghetti and I ordered my Creamy Chicken Spaghetti. I like to eat spaghetti with creamy sauce and don’t quite like tomato sauce probably because I don’t like sour-tasted food.

Hmm….the creamy chicken spaghetti really tasted good when it was still hot.

Both my nephew and I really enjoyed our spaghetti meals. I also like to have meal wth my chubby nephew because he is so cute and funny. We really have had a great Saturday afternoon yesterday.

Post Valentine’s Day – To Celebrate My Sister’s Birthday

One day after the Valentine’s Day is one of my sisters’ birthday. It is easy to remember her birthday since hers falls on 15 February.

We have actually had a celebration for my sister last Sunday when our family had been to a Chinese Shark’s Fin restaurant to have our Chinese New Year feast. So, we just have a very simple birthday celebration today by buying soya sauce crabs and satay for her.

One of the reasons for buying crabs is because my chubby nephew loves to eat crabs very much. We had been going round and hunting for crabs yesterday’s afternoon but was to no avail because most of the seafood restaurants only started their business in the evening.

So, I think today is a good day to buy soya sauce crabs for my nephew as well as for my sister to celebrate her post Valentine’s Birthday 😉

Chinese New Year – End Of The Chinese New Year Celebrations In The Year Of The OX 2009

The 15th day of the 1st month of the Chinese New Year has finally arrived. This is the last day of celebrating Chinese New Year in the Year of the OX. We have to wait for another year for the Year of the Tiger to arrive before celebrating Chinese New Year again.

A day before this day, my family and I went to the Chinatown’s restaurant to have our Chinese New Year feast during lunch time. We booked our table one week in advance at the Tam Kah Shark’s Fin restaurant.

The waitress was very polite and well-trained. She greeted us when we reached there and ushered us to our table at the second storey. Shortly, she started to serve the dishes sequentially. The dishes were Yu Sheng, Peng Cai, tray of 5 lucky stars, shark fin soup, fish of abundant luck, abalone with vegetables, roast chicken, desserts and so on.

When we were about to finish our lunch, we heard a very loud drum sound coming from downstairs. Apparently, the lion dance troupe was invited in to bring good luck, auspiciousness and prosperity to the restaurant.

We enjoyed the Chinese New Year feast very much. We have to wait for another new year to come before we can enjoy the festive season good food again.

Chinese New Year – Delicious and Heart-Warming Home-Cooked Reunion Dinner

We chose to have our Chinese New Year reunion dinner at home for the family to get together. I think it is very heart-warming to enjoy the delicious home-cooked reunion feast with the family.

We used to have the Chinese New Year traditional food in the past and it is no difference for this year. Although the world economy is slowing down and everybody is tightening the belt, I’m glad that we are still able to continue to enjoy those good food that we used to have had traditionally.

The Chinese New Year traditional food that I’m referring to are abalone, mushroom, prawns, scallops, lotus-root soup, oysters and so on. You will know that these are mostly expensive food at one glance 🙂
